Sony Ericsson is rumored to be buying stocks by 50% and end cooperation with Sony Ericsson is already a decade old. The deal is reportedly worth more than USD 1 billion.
Rumors about whether Sony will take full control or abandon this collaboration had been circulating for so long. On the other hand, Sony Ericsson is currently struggling to maintain competition in the mobile market.
Quoted from Cnet, on Friday (07/10/2011), Sony Ericsson's market share reached only 11% of Android phone in the final quarter. The company is also only sold 7.6 million devices, fell several million units over the previous year ie, 11 million units in the same quarter.
In the deal, Sony does have the option to focus more on the tablet and gaming division. Ericsson itself, which has a cell phone vendor before joining Sony, has 50% of the company Sony Ericsson.
Later, while Sony tries his luck in the market Android phones, tablets and PlayStation gaming platforms, then Ericsson will only focus on non-commercial business.
The joint venture between Sony and Ericsson was formed in 2001. It's just not compete with the collaboration of both Nokia and Samsung in the category of low-end and lost quickly in response to the device from Apple in the high-end.
With the possible takeover of Sony Ericsson, the Japanese electronics giant is expected to strengthen the rivalry with Apple and Samsung. Unfortunately, until now both Sony and Ericsson declined to comment on the rumors.
