IT Waste Environmental Issues Still So

Waste information technology (IT), such as waste computer products, mobile phones and other can not be recycled so that it becomes its own environmental problems.
In fact, there is already a Government Regulation (PP) to implement Law No. 18/2007 on Waste Management for waste products IT (Information Technology) stating that the processing and recycling is the responsibility of the manufacturer.


However, to this Act are yet to be implemented properly.

"Until now, waste IT products such as mobile phones, computers, and others are difficult to recycle and have become environmental problems," said Basuki. "For that, before it's already worse then it needs to be no clear rules," he said.
With so many IT waste, Basuki said, it is necessary to define how PP waste management.
Basuki said, while the PP has not issued its existing laws: Law No. 18/2007 on Waste Management led to a tug between the government and employers about the rule. "The absence of the PP was the cause until now is still going tug IT waste management responsibilities," he said.
Furthermore, Basuki said the environmental problems caused by the development of IT has also occurred along with the emergence of conditions of energy dissipation and processing of natural resources (SDA) raw material for making IT products.
"Because the management of waste IT still tug, it also resulted in waste of raw material for making IT," said Basuki.
Meanwhile, Sutiono Gunadi, General Manager of Environmental Teknotama Internusa (EcoStar Group), which is a waste processing company IT says, the treatment of electronic waste that has been unused or e-waste can not be like the garbage in general.
The reason, the waste is classified as Toxic and Hazardous Materials (B3) for electronic products contain heavy metals such as lead, mercury, cadmium, arsenic and so on.
"Processing should not be just by burning in the open, because it will be harmful to humans," said Sutiono.
